A Kettering man who was disturbed by unusual sounds coming in his house came face to face with an intruder on his staircase.

The incident in a house in Durban Road took place in the early hours of Monday, March 29 when the home owner confronted the burglar who had walked up the stairs.

Northamptonshire Police have appealed for any witnesses to the man's mountain bike getaway after he had stolen keys to a car and to the property.

A Northants Police spokesman said: "Witnesses are being sought after a residential burglary in Durban Road, Kettering which took place in the early hours of Monday, March 29.

"The occupant was in his bedroom at about 1am when he heard a noise from his letterbox and then the sound of creaking from the stairs. As he has gone to check out the noise, he discovered a male standing on the stairs.

"The occupant shouted at the male, who ran back down the stairs and out of the front door, where he left the area on an adult mountain bike. Keys to the property and the occupant’s vehicle were stolen."

The offender has been described as about 5ft 11in, and wearing a dark blue coloured hooded top, brown bottoms and off white or cream trainers.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this incident, who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area or who may have dash cam or doorbell footage of a male fitting the above description.
