A man who burgled a house in Desborough before fleeing from police officers has been jailed for four-and-a-half years.

Danny Lane, of no fixed address, admitted burglary after breaking into a house in the town at about 11am on January 23 to steal jewellery.

He drove off in his blue Peugeot 206 - despite being disqualified from driving - fleeing from chasing police officers.

His escape was initially a success. But he was eventually tracked down by the "relentless" burglary team and arrested in London.

Last week Lane, 39, was locked up at Northampton Crown Court and is another success story for Operation Crooked, Northamptonshire Police's campaign to tackle burglary.

Lead investigator, PC Mark Edkins, said: “This case shows that if you are intent on committing a burglary within Northamptonshire then you will be dealt with robustly.

“If offenders think that leaving the county makes them untouchable, then think again, as we will be relentless in chasing justice for victims of burglary in Northamptonshire.

“Danny Lane posed a real threat to home owners in this county and he had no choice but to plead guilty at the earliest opportunity because of the weight of evidence against him.

“I am pleased he has been removed from our streets at the earliest opportunity by the Burglary Team, making homes in Northamptonshire safer as a result.”
