Covidiots rack up £1,400 fines after being nabbed on M1 in Northamptonshire

In total, the bill for that lot comes to £1,400 in Fixed Penalty Notices, making it an expensive night out.

The Honda was marked as wanted by in Manchester in connection with reports of a vehicle failing to stop after a collision.

Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras quickly alerted officers to its presence on the M1 in Northamptonshire late on Tuesday night.

Around 150 more cameras — which checks registrations on databases alerting police if a vehicle is stolen or linked to crime — are currently being installed across the county as part of a £1.3million investment by Chief Constable Nick Adderley and Police, Fire & Crime Commissioner Stephen Mold.

Mr Adderley, said: “We are cracking down hard on crime in Northamptonshire and doubling the size of the camera network significantly increases our capacity to fight crime and protect the public.

“ANPR is yet another tool that helps us to focus our efforts where we can have the most impact and make life difficult for anyone who comes to Northamptonshire to commit crime.”
