Seven police cars and a dog unit were called to the scene just before 6pm, with the street taped off between Silver Street and Eskdaill Street and a police presence in School Lane.

During the incident a 29-year-old man was attacked by three other men and hit with an ashtray, before being taken to Kettering General Hospital.

Today a police spokesman said he had a head wound and visible bruising but his injuries were not life-threatening or life-changing.

A 28-year-old woman also received minor injuries but nobody has been arrested in connection with the incident.

One nearby business owner, who did not want to be named, said his staff had been told not to leave the premises while police dealt with the incident.

Breaches of Covid rules are now being investigated by police.

A force spokesman said: "We are also investigating breaches of the Covid-19 legislation in connection with the incident."

Kettering is currently in Tier 2, meaning you can only meet socially with friends and family indoors who you either live with or have formed a support bubble with.
