A murder investigation has been launched following the stabbing of a 16-year-old boy in Corby last night (Tuesday).
Police cordons remain on the Hazel Leys estate while officers try to piece together what led to the incident which has shocked the whole community.
Here's what we know so far about the investigation:
- Police officers were called just before 7pm to Constable Road to reports that a boy had been stabbed
- Despite the best efforts of paramedics, police confirmed he died at the scene
- Cordons went up across the Hazel Leys estate last night following the stabbing
- Constable Road and Hogarth Walk were shut to traffic last night following the incident, but residents were still allowed to access their homes
- The stabbing took place just a hundred metres from Corby town centre
- People in the area said they had seen a huge police presence on the estate from around 7pm last night
- The police helicopter was in the area along with dozens of officers
- Three people were arrested in connection with the incident last night
- DCI Steve Watkins from Northants Police said last night: “This is a fast-moving investigation and enquiries are progressing at pace"
- Police cordons remain in place on the estate this morning while officers continue with their investigations
- Residents have been leaving flowers at the scene today (Wednesday), with officers moving them to an area inside the cordon
- Officers have been guarding cordons on the roads leading to Reynolds Road, with one officer on duty outside a house in the street
- Police have today named the victim as 16-year-old Rayon Pennycook.
- Northants Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with any information to make contact by calling 101 and quoting incident number 399
