A youngster in Corby caught in possession of a Taser has admitted the offence in court.

The 14-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was found by police to have the weapon in November.

He appeared at Wellingborough magistrates court on Tuesday (July 7) and pleaded guilty.

He was referred to the Northamptonshire Youth Offending Team and given a four month contract. He was also ordered to pay a £21 victim surcharge and £35 in court costs.

Although Tasers are designed to administer a non-lethal shock to people, in the wrong hands they can do permanent damage. Several people have died after Tasers were discharged on them and in April a coroner warned that deaths after the administration of Tasers would rise unless action was taken.
