A would-be-burglar who broke into a former food factory in Corby got more than he bargained for when he was confronted by a group of workers using it as digs.

A 16-year-old suspect broke into the factory in Godwin Road between 8.20pm and 9.30pm on Sunday, March 31. It has been empty for more than a year since it shut, with the loss of 300 jobs. But if the suspect had read the story we published earlier this year, he would have realised that Chinese construction workers had been given permission to set up on-site accommodation while they convert the factory into a recycling facility.

Workers managed to detain the boy before police arrived to arrest him on suspicion of burglary.

Northing was stolen. The boy released on bail pending further enquiries.
