Detectives investing the theft of a charity box packed with cash from inside Northampton General Hospital say they have made an arrest.

Police revealed the incident happened on January 3 when a glass door was smashed to gain entry to the oncology ward.

Once inside, the thief took a large charity box full of money before making off.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: "Officers investigating the theft arrested a 39-year-old man on Tuesday on suspicion of the crime. He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

"Anyone with information about this incident is still encouraged to come forward and can do so by calling 101 using incident number 21000003738."
