A woman working at Kettering General Hospital returned to her car to find thieves had stolen its catalytic converter.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the callous crime at the hospital in Rothwell Road yesterday (Monday).

The victim had parked her black Toyota Prius on the top floor of the hospital's car park.

But at some point between 9am and 7.15pm its catalytic converter was stolen.

There has been a huge rise in catalytic converters nationally. Catalytic converters clean up harmful gases before they exit the exhaust pipe.

The precious metals used in them are highly valuable.

Witnesses or anyone with information should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

Kettering General Hospital has been contacted for comment.
