Tough lockdown laws make it illegal for anyone to be away from home for only a handful of reasons including work, exercise or in an emergency. The measures were introduced earlier this month after rising Covid rates became unmanageable with the tier system. More than 100,000 UK people have now died of the virus, which is thought to have emerged in China at the end of 2019.
