A man selling a car in Wellingborough started it so a customer could take it for a test drive - before it was stolen as he turned his back.

The victim was showing a potential buyer the grey Mini Cooper S in Alma Street at about 11.30am on Saturday (September 26) when the theft took place.

After starting it up to go on a test drive with the buyer he turned his back - and the customer got into the car and drove off.

A police spokesman said it was recovered a few hours later at about 3pm in Everest Lane, Corby, just outside the Corby Candle.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested for theft of a motor vehicle, making off without payment, failing to provide a specimen of breath and driving whilst disqualified.

He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
