The burglar attempted to gain entry by pulling a door at the rear of the pub, which is currently closed as part of the second national Covid lockdown.

But, after he didn't succeed, he smashed a rear window and climbed through it.

Police said he "had a good look" around the downstairs of the pub before going upstairs and then entering the cellar.

He tried to remove two crates of alcohol and had bottles of booze in his coat pocket but was disturbed by a resident, police said.

He then left the crates behind "in haste" and went through the back door before jumping over a wall, having stolen bottles of alcohol and a hand-held radio.

A police spokesman said: "The suspect is described as a white man, aged between 20 and 30, wearing a thick hip-length jacket, jeans and canvas style Adidas trainers."

Witnesses or anyone with information should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
