Police launched an arson investigation following a blaze which wrecked five cars and a building in Northampton on Saturday night.

Detectives believe the fire on Kings Heath industrial estate — which took more than two hours to put out — followed a break-in at a property in Kingsfield Way.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: "Investigations into the exact cause is not yet know but it is believed to have been started deliberately.

"A workshop, waiting room and offices have been severely damaged, along with five vehicles which were parked inside."

Police and five crews of firefighters answered a 999 call between 9.30pm and 9.45pm on Saturday. Police believe whoever broke into the premises via the rear of the property activated an alarm system.

Detectives have launched an appeal for anyone to come forward who may have witnessed the incident, seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area between the stated times, or who may have caught anyone running away from the scene on CCTV or dash-cam footage.
