Armed robbers raid Wellingborough's M&S

Two armed men wearing balaclavas robbed the M&S store in Wellingborough this morning (Friday).

The pair - armed with crowbars and hammers - smashed the door to the shop at about 5.20am before bursting inside.

They then stole from the tills before fleeing from the Foodhall store at the retail park off London Road.

A police spokesman said: "Staff were inside while it was happening but thankfully weren’t injured."

Officers have remained at the scene today whilst their investigation continues.

No further descriptions of the attackers or CCTV images were available at this stage and no arrests have been made.

Witnesses or anyone with information should contact police on 101.

M&S, who opened the Wellingborough store in 2012, said the store was temporarily closed this morning and re-opened at about midday.

A spokesman said: "We are currently supporting police with an investigation into the incident that took place today.

"The safety of our colleagues is our highest priority."
