Armed police were called to the scene.

Four teenagers carrying an unloaded air rifle were spoken to after an incident in Oundle which warranted an armed response from police.

Officers received reports at about 4pm yesterday (Monday) that a group of young people were seen carrying a firearm in the Station Road area.

The group - four in their late teens - was then located by police in the St Osyths Lane area, near the Co-op, and armed officers were sent to the scene.

A police spokesman said: "Thankfully the ‘firearm’ didn’t turn out to be a gun at all but was an unloaded air rifle.

"Words of advice were given to the young people in question and no offences were recorded."
