Armed police arrest one man and two teenagers following threat to kill woman in Northampton

Armed police made three arrests after a dramatic chase through Northampton ended in the town centre last night (Tuesday).

Dogs and a police helicopter helped track down a 21-year-old and two teenagers following a 999 call from a woman saying she had been threatened after being approached by three people in a car in Sixfields.

Cops forced stopped a stolen blue Hyundai in Abington Square after a pursuit and arrested the 21-year-old on suspicion of threats to kill, possession of a bladed article and theft of a motor vehicle.

Both teenagers fled but were hunted down after a foot chase with the help of a tip-off from a member of the public.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "Our control room received a call from a frightened woman who had been approached by three people in a car who made threats to kill her.

"Armed police officers were immediately deployed due to the assessed threat and quickly located the car in question which failed to stop for them.

"After a short pursuit through Bedford Road, Cliftonville Road and Wellingborough Road, the blue Hyundai Santa Fe was safely stopped in Abington Square.

"One man was immediately arrested but the other two made a run for it.

"A foot chase began around the Wellingborough Road and St Edmund's Street areas of Northampton, ending with a tip-off from a member of the public which led officers to locate the other two people, a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy.

"They were also both arrested on suspicion of threats to kill, possession of a bladed article and theft of a motor vehicle. All three remain in police custody at this time.
