Police officers are appealing for witnesses after a boy was approached by three men in a van on Tuesday (November 17).

The incident happened in Ashby Street at about 4.15pm, when a white van pulled up alongside an 11-year-old boy and tried to engage him in conversation.

The boy didn’t reply and ran away.

There were three men in the vehicle and all are described to have been wearing construction-style clothing.

DC Matthew Crick said: “While this could well have been a harmless incident by three men who didn’t realise that approaching a young boy would have put him in fear, I would like to reassure the local community that we are treating this seriously and are working hard to determine the circumstances.

“I would firstly like to appeal for the men in the vehicle to come forward as they may not have realised their behaviour could have been interpreted as sinister.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the area at the time.
