Walden had denied the charge at five previous court appearances and was due to stand trial today but changed his plea to guilty at the beginning of the hearing after witnesses, including his victim, were forced to make a trip to court to give evidence.

The court heard how Walden had continued to phone and text his former partner between December 2019 and February 2020 despite their break up, and that he had visited her without invitation. His behaviour continued after he was arrested so he was placed in jail on remand.

At previous court hearings, Walden had pleaded with magistrates to release him, but they refused because of the high risk of him reoffending.

Jailing him for 12 weeks at a hearing in Northampton today, magistrates said the time he had served on remand did not count towards his sentence and that he had a 'flagrant disregard for court orders'.

He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £122 and court costs of £200.

A charge of stalking was dropped.
