A45 crash near Wellingborough involved a lorry and four other vehicles

A man had to be cut from a car on the A45 this morning after a five-vehicle crash near Wellingborough.

Emergency services were called to the eastbound carriageway near the Great Doddington junction just before 6.45am.

The crash involved a lorry and four other vehicles - a white Ford Transit, a black Hyundai i20, a grey Mercedes CLS 320, and a blue Skoda Octavia.

One man in the Ford Transit had to be extracted from the vehicle by a fire crew and has been taken to hospital after suffering neck pain.

A police spokesman said: "The A45 eastbound has been closed at Great Billing and a large volume of traffic has been held up due to the incident."

The road fully re-opened at about 9.30am.

A car has also broken down near to the crash.

Earlier this morning at 6am police were also called to an incident on the A45 eastbound on the south side of Wellingborough.

A car flipped over but the two people in it were uninjured.
