The incident occurred on November 25

The otherwise unassuming Highfield Road not far from Wellingborough's Eastfield Park was surprisingly quiet today (Thursday) given the shocking events that unfolded there just 18 days ago.

Police revealed yesterday that a man had died 17 days after being attacked on November 25.

Officers said he had answered the door of a house in Highfield Road to three men who said they were from the Border Force.

They attacked him, leaving him with serious injuries, and he was taken to hospital but sadly died 17 days later on December 12.

Following the official launch of a murder investigation yesterday (Wednesday), the street in which the incident occurred was calm as police investigate what happened.

Snow lined the pathways that connect Mill Road to Leys Road, and all seemed somewhat normal in Highfield Road, situated in Wellingborough’s Victoria ward.

Given the 63-year-old victim’s death occurred so recently the minimal police presence was a surprise, though advice and calls for assistance have been relayed on the force’s official website.

Detective Chief Inspector Adam Pendlebury, lead investigator, said: “I would urge everyone in the local area to review any CCTV, doorbell or dash cam footage they might have which could help our investigation.”

Police have yet to name the victim, but a spokesman said specially trained officers are supporting the victim’s family as they come to terms with this ‘awful news’.

Anyone with information about the murder can call Northamptonshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
