24 firearms including two BB guns handed into police during four-week amnesty across Northamptonshire
Two dozen firearms were handed into police during a four-week amnesty across Northamptonshire.
The amnesty, coordinated by the National Ballistics Intelligence Service (NABIS) and led locally by the Northamptonshire Police operations team, took place in February and had a particular focus on BRUNI top/side venting blank firing (TVBFs) firearms.
During the amnesty, 24 weapons were handed in - 11 were BRUNI blank firing weapons,11 were blank firing weapons of a different brand, and two were BB guns.
Operations Inspector Craig Johnson said: “I’d like to thank everyone who engaged with this year’s amnesty and handed in a firearm - you have potentially saved lives.

“These weapons could have been converted to be viable firearms if not relinquished and by handing them in, these people have made our county a safer place.
“While nationally and locally, crimes involving firearms remain low, any incident involving a gun within our communities is one too many, and as this campaign clearly demonstrates, surrenders such as this are invaluable in the recovery of illegal weapons.”
