Michael Thompson: Defendant called Kim ‘desperate’ and a ‘narcissist’ in argument recording titled ‘she got told’
The defendant called the alleged murder victim “desperate” and a “narcissist” in a covert recording of an argument titled “she got told”, which the court heard on Thursday June 11.
55-year-old Michael Thompson, of Pinewood Road, pleaded not guilty to the rape and murder of 43-year-old Kimberley Thompson – who was found dead at a home in Pinewood Road on August 9 2025.
Thompson appeared at Northampton Crown Court on December 16 2025 when he also pleaded not guilty to two additional charges of committing an act with intent to pervert the course of public justice.
The trial, which is being held at Nottingham Crown Court, is expected to last around six weeks and the jury members were sworn in on Thursday May 21 ahead of the prosecution opening on Tuesday May 26.

As part of the schedule of events, which the prosecution shares with the jury as they begin to round off their case, messages and voice notes are read out and listened to in chronological order.
The court heard that Thompson had two devices, referred to as his “everyday phone” and “recording” phone. Thompson would film going through Kim’s phone to have a record on one of his devices, as well as covertly recording what was going on in the house and Kim’s car.
This argument is one of the hours of recordings recovered and was titled “she got told” by the defendant in 2024.
It began with Kim saying that she could not imagine trying to explain how Thompson felt, and that he could not explain how she felt. The defendant responded “I could give it a go”.
He proceeded to call her “desperate” and that instead of fixing the situation they were in, she decided to go on “a campaign”. The defendant brought up that Kim had not set her relationship status as married on Facebook, and spoke of sexual videos she filmed of herself in their shared home.
Thompson questioned if Kim had any empathy and that he had to accept she did not “give a ****” about him. He questioned Kim about her claim that the videos were filmed for her own pleasure and not for anyone else.
The defendant told Kim to “**** off back upstairs” to her bedroom and told her she was upset because he was “stating facts” about her “reactive abuse behaviour” and “victim mentality”.
“You are very skilled you are, very clever,” the court heard Thompson say in the recording. “Not about cheating, you’re dibby. You’re one silly ******* **** about that.”
Thompson proceeded to call the alleged murder victim a “narcissist” who believes her own lies, and claimed that he cared so much about her that he tried to tell her about her lies. He said that like she refused to believe the lies she was saying, he told lies so others did not think bad about Kim, the court heard.
The defendant spoke of how he brought books and researched her behaviour, and Kim was “not interested in none of that”, and asked her to “get off [her] ******* phone” when she came upstairs to the bedroom after having time downstairs on her device.
After Kim asked Thompson if he ever stops, which referred to how much he spoke at her in the argument, the defendant said he could not wait until the last time he saw Kim walk out the door.
The trial continues.
