HMP Five Wells prisoner who sexually assaulted officer while 'looking into her eyes' said gate arrest ‘broke his heart’

A prisoner who bit one prison officer and twice sexually assaulted another has said that all he wants is to go back to a mental health hospital.

Iomeshi Dirisu was at Northampton Crown Court to be sentenced for biting a guard and grabbing the buttocks of another officer at HMP Five Wells.

The court heard how Dirisu, of Abingdon Road, Oxford, had been jailed in July 2025 for a year for sexual assault, and initially went to HMP Bullingdon, in Oxfordshire, to serve his sentence.

Prosecuting, Damian Warburton, said that less than a month after his arrival, in August, a prison officer had gone to attend to Dirisu but, after an altercation, he took him to the ground.

Dirisu, 34, bit him on the thigh.

"The officer had to go to hospital and have preventative treatment in case of any diseases” said Mr Warburton.

"This was distressing for him.”

Dirisu was moved to HMP Five Wells to serve the remainder of his sentence there. But in November 2025 he refused to go back into his cell, and a prison officer tried to push him into the room.

Mr Warburton said: “He grabbed hold of one of her buttocks while looking into her eyes.”

Other officers arrived to help and manged to get him into the cell.

But he again grabbed the buttock of the female officer and squeezed, maintaining eye contact.

Dirisu, who represented himself at the hearing, pleaded guilty to one count of assault by beating of an emergency worker and two sexual assaults. During the videolink hearing from HMP Peterborough he was seen walking around the room holding his head. He lives on the healthcare wing at the prison because of his ‘significant’ mental health issues.

The court was told he has 44 previous convictions including for violence. He also has convictions for sexual assaults and an indecent exposure in 2021.

Mitigating for himself, Dirisu told the court he had spent seven years in a mental health institution before his latest conviction.

He claimed that the prison officer at HMP Bullingdon had put his knee on his head and punched him in the head while he was on the floor. He said that had caused him a brain injury.

"I have difficulties trusting prison officers,” he said.

He told the court that after he was released from HMP Five Wells, he was arrested at the gate for the three assaults and that had ‘broken his heart’

“All I’ve known if mental health hospitals, and that’s all I want,” he said.

"I want to go back to the community were I’m in the lounge, drinking coffee, I want to go back there.

"I don’t want to be here, I’ve got issues.

"Please help me. I’m praying my rosary ten times a day. Ten Hail Marys.”

Sentencing, Her Honour Judge Adrienne Lucking said that the sentence she would pass would be one that Dirisu had already served on remand, and so he would be released on the day of his court appearance.

He was given two months in prison and told he will be closely supervised by probation for a year. He will be subject to the conditions of the sex offenders’ register for seven years.
