Desborough home targeted by Uppingham burglar who forced window

A Rutland man who was already on a suspended prison term for stealing a car has been jailed after he burgled a house.

Nathan Clayton, 38, was previously before the courts in February after he stole a Vauxhall Corsa in Northampton, and drove it in Weedon Road with no licence or insurance.

On that occasion he was given a 16 week prison term, suspended for 18 months, and told that the sentence could be activated unless he kept his nose clean.

But Clayton, of Deans Terrace, Uppingham, and previously of Thring Terrace, could not keep out of trouble. At just before 7am on August 29 this year he forced a ground-floor window of a home in High Street, Desborough, before burgling the property.

He was caught and was brought before the courts on Friday (November 21) for sentence after pleading guilty to one count of burglary.

His Honour Judge David Herbert KC, sitting at Northampton Crown Court, partly activated two months of the suspended sentence, and gave Clayton and extra 44 months on prison to run consecutively.

He will serve half of the 46 month jail term in prison before he is released to serve the remainder on licence.
