Coroner opens inquest into death of Tata steel worker
An inquest into the death of Kenneth Smart at Corby’s Tata steel tube works has been opened this morning.
In a brief hearing at Northampton Guildhall, senior coroner Anne Pember opened the proceedings that will examine the death of Kenneth Campbell Smart, 55, who died in an incident with a side loader at the works in Weldon Road on January 13.
Mrs Pember said that the preliminary cause of death was chest and pelvis injuries, pending further reports. She said she had received statements from Mr Smart’s line manager and PC Holly Campbell, who was the first officer on the scene.
At the end of the very short hearing, she adjourned the inquest until August 30 this year.
