Corby qube bar closed after staff left shaken by New Year's Day assault

A popular Corby bar will remain shut today (Friday, January 2) after members of staff suffered a shocking assault at the hands of a customer.

Police were called to the qube, which is inside the Corby Cube, at about 10pm last night (January 1) following allegations of a serious icident at the venue.

Speaking on social media, a bar representative said that two women had assaulted a member of staff by pushing her into a door, causing her to hit her head. A second staff member was allegedly punched in the face after the pair were asked to leave.

It came on New Year’s Day which is one of the busiest days in Corby’s pub calendar – as tradition dictates locals are allowed to bring a bottle of spirits into pubs. There is usually a jovial atmosphere among drinkers and little trouble.

The bar was forced to close early and a social media post this morning said that it will stay closed today.

The post said: “This decision has been made so we can take the necessary time to secure and review all evidence and CCTV footage, cooperate fully with the authorities, and ensure that those involved are held accountable.

“The safety and wellbeing of our staff and customers is our absolute priority, and we will not tolerate any form of violence or abusive behaviour.

“Thank you for your understanding and continued support. We will keep you updated and look forward to welcoming you back soon.”

The qube bar has been open for 10 years and is popular for its relaxed ambience, good food and cocktails. Their Facebook page was immediately flooded with supportive messages from customers following the incident, which is the first time a staff member has been assulted since the bar opened.

One, Lucy Brooks, said: “You and your staff work incredibly hard, you’re all such a lovely team. It should not have happened to anyone, especially people doing their job!

“I really hope everyone involved will be okay.

“It is obvious how much you care about your team, so we all know they’ll feel that support from you.”

A Northamptonshire Police spokeswoman said officers were called to the bar at about 10pm and appealed for witnesses to come forward. Anyone with information can contact police on 101 quoting incident number 26000001806.
