Corby convict on the run captured in Yorkshire
A serial offender who walked out of prison and went on the run for two months ago is back in custody.
Steven Michael Gaskell was behind the wheel of a car that crashed off the road in Dingley, killing young Corby mum Courtney Donnelly.
The 32-year-old had served 17 months of a five year sentence when he left open prison HMP Sudbury on June 19 this year and didn’t return.
Derbyshire Police launched a nationwide hunt for Gaskell, who is also a drug dealer, saying they believed he had links to Derbyshire, Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, West Yorkshire, Hertfordshire, Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire and Rutland.

Courtney’s family had been left concerned that Gaskell might return to Corby.
Now police have confirmed that they have finally caught up with him. He was apprehended in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, on Saturday (August 15) and arrested.
Police have not revealed any more details about where he was found or his current whereabouts.
Gaskell was sentenced for five years and two months in January 2024. He was due to serve at least half of his sentence before released which means he has at least another year to serve.
