Burglar who stole little dog Peggy as well as six guns is jailed

A heartless burglar who stole a Dachsund puppy called Peggy from her crate is now behind bars.

There was a huge response from our readers when Peggy was taken from her home in Toft, Cambridgeshire, in March 2025.

It was thought at the time that three-month Peggy may have been taken across the border to Northamptonshire as a car stolen during the burglary was found in our county.

Now the man who stole her has been jailed.

On 18 March, Sullivan Lee smashed the patio doors of a home in Hardwick Road, Toft, before taking the dog from her crate in the kitchen.

Two firearms cabinets were also ripped from the wall and six firearms, along with a blue Mini and the keys for a Toyota Hilux, were stolen.

CCTV captured Lee driving a black Audi S3 in convoy with the stolen Mini. Officers identified him, and his DNA was recovered from inside the abandoned car, which was found in Northamptonshire on March 24. The Audi had been stolen days earlier, during a burglary in Flitwick, Bedfordshire, on March 14.

Peggy the puppy was found abandoned four days later and safely returned to her owner following media appeals.

Lee’s DNA was also linked to a separate burglary in Little Eriswell, Brandon, Suffolk, on May 10, where about £800 of jewellery was stolen.

At Cambridge Crown Court on Tuesday (March 31), Lee, 24, of no fixed address, was sentenced to five years and 10 months in prison after pleading guilty to three counts of burglary and theft of a motor vehicle.

PC Andy Smith, from the Cambridgeshire Police Southern Acquisitive Crime Team, said: “Thankfully in this case, Peggy was found and returned to her owners. Lee repeatedly targeted people’s homes with no regard for the fear and distress he caused. We hope this sentence offers some reassurance that we will continue to pursue and bring prolific burglars to justice.”
