Alleged Corby counterfeit cigarette dealer due in court

A man accused of running a fake cigarette-selling business from Corby is set to appear before magistrates in the morning.

A trading standards investigation allegedly uncovered boxes of counterfeit cigarettes at an address in Ibsen Walk on the Danesholme estate in Corby.

The fake tobacco products were said to be branded with labels including Parliament, Pect, Queen menthol, L&M, Sobraine, Platinum, Regal, NZ Gold, Dunhill, Benson and Hedges, Richmond, Mayfair and Lambert and Butler. Court lists show that the many of the boxes are said to have not carry health warnings.

The three charges against defendant Diarri Kheder, 36, of Ibsen Walk are; supplying tobacco without the relevant health warnings; distributing goods bearing a false trade mark; and concealing, disguising transferring and converting criminal property.

The final charge relates to concealing cigarettes under floorboards and converting criminal cash by gambling and buying designer clothes.

All the allegations relate to a period between the beginning of 2022 and the end of 2023.

Kheder will appear before Northampton Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Thursday, February 5).
