Jennie Mascall, 53, was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer last year.

After battling the disease she decided to brave the shave last week, raising more than £300 for Macmillan and Kettering General Hospital’s breast care unit.

Jennie, a single mum to her 15-year-old daughter Jorja, said: “They [KGH] were absolutely wonderful, such fantastic people.

“It made such a difference being able to talk to them about it.

“At first I didn’t tell my family and kept it to myself until I knew there was a problem.

“They were such a help to me when I needed them.”

Jennie spoke of her tough time after being diagnosed and said she always fears the disease could return.

She said: “I went for a mammogram and was called back and once I was told I had got this problem it was hard.

“I had to go and be seen every other week for about two months and you don’t get time to heal in between.

“I’m okay now which is a relief but I’m always fearful it might come back.

“It’s the most common cancer to return.”

After braving the shave she’s starting to get used to her new short hair.

But she says it’s not been so popular with other family members.

She said: “I quite like it, but I’m not sure my family do!”

Jennie thanked everyone who had donated so far.
