Corby man raises £3,000 for Northamptonshire charity Macy's Memory by holding 24-hour bowlathon

Graham Carley plays at Desborough Indoor Bowls Club and has been taking part in international matches between England and Scotland to raise money for charitable causes for the past eight years.

In 2013, after supporting a friend’s charity event, Graham came up with the idea of holding a ‘bowlathon’ at his club to raise extra funds.

This year it was his turn to choose the beneficial charity - and he chose Northamptonshire charity Macy’s Memory after it supported him following the death of his baby daughter Lacey-Mae.

By holding the ‘bowlathon’ Mr Carley raised almost £2,500, which added to other donations, took the fundraising total to more than £3,000.

Mr Carley said: “Now we have had time to reflect on the bowlathon, I would like to say (again) how much the money raised means to the charity.

“I, for one, am so grateful to have so many friends and family that help us raise this money.

“Each year I start planning seven months in advance but each year I worry that it is going to be a flop.

“I don’t know why I worry when I have some amazing friends travelling the length of the country to help.

“Once again thank you so much, I could not do this without your support.”
