Corby homeless charity urgently seeking new premises

Nightlight runs from the Epiphany Church hall in Elizabeth Street and can house up to 12 rough sleepers from the borough.

But it will be forced to leave after the trust which runs the premises decided to take a “change in direction”.

Miriam Pullinger, co-ordinator for Corby Nightlight, said: “We provide a warm, safe environment for up to 12 rough sleepers from the town and surrounding area.

“This is the fourth winter of operation and has been made possible by the generous support from local church groups, businesses, local charitable groups and individuals, as well as a large group of willing volunteers who are prepared to staff it overnight.

“The shelter has been operating from the Epiphany Church hall in Elizabeth Street but due to a change in direction by the trust responsible for the premises the project itself will be homeless after March 2017.

“New premises are urgently needed for winter 2017/2018 and onwards.”

Nighlight says it has been looking at several locations in Corby but so far none has been found which is suitable or available.

Ideally volunteers need to be able to move bedding and equipment into a new location at the beginning of April.

Recently the charity was given a £250 donation towards rent and heating costs by Corby and District Lions.

Lions president Colin Bradshaw presented the cheque to Miriam Pullinger, alongside Lions Jenny Clarke and Martin Sawer and several volunteers who help run the night shelter on a regular basis.
