Corby firefighters tackling large blaze behind Earlstrees Industrial Estate

Fire crews are on the scene of a large blaze on wasteland behind Godwin Road.

Two pumps, other fire service support vehicles and engineers from Western Power Distribution are on the rural site of the fire on the piece of wasteland at the rear of the Earlstrees Industrial Estate in Corby.

It is believed that crews found it difficult to gain access the isolated site close to We R Sports and by the time they managed to navigate a safe route in, a pile of rubbish was well alight, with thick smoke spread across the area.

In close proximity to the blaze are Western Power Distribution overhead lines and firefighters were concerned that these lines could be affected should the fire spread.

Crews were called out at about 5.15pm and it is believed they will be on site for some time.
