According to research undertaken by WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme - 2012), everybody throws away on average 160kg of edible food and drink a year, equating to an average cost of £470 a year per household and a total of 14% of our food going into our refuse bin.

If you already have a food caddy then make sure you register on to the ‘I’m in to win’ scheme.

The scheme gives people the chance to win prizes ranging from free leisure centre passes to experiences and days out as well as vouchers for local shops and restaurants – simply by registering their details and putting out their food waste caddies for collection each week.

Organised by the Northamptonshire Waste Partnership with the support of Northamptonshire County Council’s Waste and Energy Education Team, the scheme will run in four areas of Northamptonshire.

Every month there will be a winning resident from each of the council areas taking part: Corby Council, Daventry District Council, East Northamptonshire Council and South Northamptonshire Council.

All people need to do to join in is register their details online at www.feedyourcaddy.co.uk and then make sure they put out their food waste caddy for collection as normal each week.

Food caddies can also be ordered for free via Corby Council’s Street Scene Hotline 01536 464242 or by visiting the One Stop Shop in the Corby Cube.
