Charity campaigning on the dangers of legal highs hosts debate in Northamptonshire

Solve It, based in Kettering, will host the meeting on Wednesday, January 13, at the Masque Theatre in Barton Seagrave, with a panel of health, legal and police professionals on hand to discuss the implications of legal highs in the county.

The event will be hosted before the New Psychoactive Substance Bill is pushed through in the Spring and will examine the challenges the county faces in combatting the problem through health, legal and drug awareness viewpoints.

Kevin Shapland, chair of trustees at Solve It, said: “We’re very excited to be hosting this debate, it’s something that is very important to the safety of young people.

“The future of the market in these substances is still very uncertain. This debate will highlight all of the issues that Northamptonshire faces in regards to their use, and it will showcase some of the most intellectual viewpoints around into how we can combat the problem and fight back against the sense of helplessness these substances cause.

Solve It educates young people, parents and carers about the dangers of Volatile Substances and New Psychoactive Substances – providing them with the skills and understanding to make a safe choice.

A bill is currently underway in parliament to introduce a widespread ban on the production, distribution, sale and supply of new psychoactive substances.

The substances have been heavily linked to a rising number of deaths in the UK and are becoming a major problem in prisons up and down the country.
