A road was closed after a car fire at a busy junction in Wellingborough.

Police and fire crews were called to deal with the blaze at the junction of Northampton Road and Queensway earlier today (Thursday).

A spokesman for Northants Police said: "This happened today at 10.50am at the junction of Northampton Road and Queensway when a black Vauxhall Corsa was set on fire due to an electrical fault in the engine compartment.

"The road was closed while the incident was dealt with but only for about 20 minutes."

These pictures taken by Trevor Stainwright show smoke billowing from the car before firefighters brought the fire under control.
