Brackmills fire: Police treating the devastating Northampton blaze as arson

A huge fire that ripped through a Northampton-based business is being treated as arson.

The blaze broke out at around 1.30am on Saturday (May 1) in Caswell Road, Brackmills industrial estate.

Nobody was hurt in the fire, but personalisation business - My 1st Years - has been left heartbroken as its head office is extensively damaged with bosses expecting little to no chance of salvaging any of the building or its contents.

Now, investigating police officers have confirmed they are treating the incident as arson as they believe the fire was deliberately started.

A spokeswoman for Northamptonshire Police said: "We are treating this fire as an incident of arson as we believe it was deliberately started.

"An investigation led by our CID (criminal investigation department) is underway and anyone with information is encouraged to contact us."

A spokesman for My 1st Years said: "We are aware that the fire at Brackmills industrial estate is being treated as arson and we welcome the announcement of a police investigation. I

"n the meantime, we can confirm that we have now issued refunds to around 1400 customers who had orders outstanding, which we were unable to fulfil as a result of the fire."

Anyone who knows anything about the incident is asked to call police on 101.
