Bargain Buys, in Northfield Avenue’s Northfield Retail Park, was opened by the town’s mayor Cllr James Burton at 10am.

It was a quick turnaround for the unit with stock moved from parent company Poundstretcher’s nearby shop and the signs going up in the space of four days.

Store manager Dan Osuch was previously the store manager at Poundworld Plus, the last retailer in the unit.

He said: “The opening was great and the first hour went really well.

“We had about 30 to 40 people in the queue before it was opened by the mayor and the crowd was really responsive.

“We’ve had some really positive feedback on some of the one day deals we’ve got.”

The shop has created about 30 jobs with some, like Mr Osuch, having previously worked at Poundworld.

Others have either moved from Poundstretcher or are new starters.

A shop called Bargain Buys had previously traded from the unit as recently as last year before being re-branded by Poundworld Plus.

Mr Osuch said it was great to have the name back in town.

He said: “I think certainly for a lot of people it sad to lose the Bargain Buys name from the high street.

“Having that back again will have a positive impact on the community.”

He added that the Bargain Buys store will have a more expansive range than Poundworld did.

Executive chairman Nadir Lalani said: “We are pleased to be opening a brand new store to the people of Kettering with loads of fantastic branded products, all at bargain prices, and look forward to opening another 50 stores over the coming months, creating more than 1,000 jobs.

“The team is working hard to deliver an outstanding shopping experience, great service, and an enjoyable shopping environment for all our new customers.”
