1940s tearoom set to open in Rushden next month

The Rushden-based charity Serve is set to open a 1940s vintage tearoom in Church Street in the town on Monday, March 21.

With help from Rushden Historical Society, the Memory Lane tearoom will have pictures, pieces of memorabilia and newspaper articles from the time as well as 1940s music playing.

The cafe will be open from 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday and will serve loose tea, home-made cakes and light snacks.

It is hoped that members of the public will go along to the tearoom as well as people who use the services provided by Serve.

Serve was formed in 1981 as an information and resource agency providing support for older people in the Rushden area.

The organisation now covers the wider area of East Northamptonshire, North Bedfordshire and parts of Wellingborough.

It offers a wide range of services, including day trips and activities, community transport, personal homecare and domestic cleaning, a handyman service and the therapy centre in Higham Ferrers.

The charity has a client base of more than 5,000.
