10 million parcels could go undelivered this Christmas

More than 10 million parcel deliveries are set to fail this Christmas as recipients won’t be at home to receive them, according to a new report.

Markus Polleichtner of specialist online delivery service Postboxed.co.uk has made the claim as we gear up for another busy festive period.

In 2014, of 120 million parcels delivered by Royal Mail in December, 9.24 million went undelivered, with a ‘Sorry we missed you’ card dropping through letterboxes instead.

And if heading for a Royal Mail depot wasn’t enough hassle, the situation may be worsened this year, as Royal Mail will close over the holiday period, meaning that if an undelivered parcel isn’t collected by December 24, it won’t be available for collection until the 29th.

A total of 43% of parcel recipients in the UK must travel between one and five miles to reach their nearest depot and 16 per cent need to travel between six and ten miles.

If you are posting Christmas gifts this year then, consider checking online for letterbox-sized packaging options to give your gift the best chance of reaching your loved one safely.
