The Forestry Commission has today (Tuesday, May 19) reopened Fineshade Wood car park after it was closed nearly two months ago to help stop the spread of coronavirus.

Toilets, the cafe, the bike hire shop and parks remain shut to visitors and anyone driving to the beauty spot is warned to be prepared to go straight home if they cannot park safely.

Bosses at Fineshade, in East Northants, said they were working hard to find a way to reopen other facilities but said they will only do so when they are happy that it is safe for visitors and staff.

A statement on social media said: “We know people will be keen to come and enjoy our walking and cycling trails, so to avoid crowds, please be aware you may need to be prepared to make the necessary decision to turn around if the car park looks busy, or is full, and come another time.

”Please don't park along the road if the car park is full.

”As well as being the main route in and out for our visitors, this is an access road for residents, so it is a significant disruption when the road gets blocked. It is also the route in for any emergency vehicles should there be an incident.

“Please support us as we are doing our best for you: be kind to our staff and your fellow visitors.”

The wood is part of centuries-old Rockingham Forest and welcomes thousands of visitors each year.
