Northamptonshire is UK’s ‘home improvement capital’

Northamptonshire residents are the most house proud and home-improvement obsessed in the UK, according to a survey published this week.

The results of the survey by Bark.com, which helps people find local services, reveal that people living in the county search on its website for painters, plasterers and interior designers more than residents living anywhere else in the country.

The findings show that Northamptonshire residents seek interior designers 40 per cent more often, and painters 66 per cent more often, than the rest of the nation.

The county’s residents also request plasterers 80 per cent more than the national average, and like to keep their outsides tidy, with almost 40 per cent more requests than the rest of the nation for exterior painters.

People living in Northamptonshire are proud of their gardens, too. More than 15 per cent of all requests received by Bark.com from its customers in the area were for gardening services – almost twice as much as in the North East.

Almost a third of all requests received related to pet care. And the population of the region is less clumsy than many of its neighbours - with residents on average needing phone and tablet repair services 20 per cent less than the rest of the UK.

John Oberlin-Harris, marketing director at Bark.com, said: “These insights show that people living in the area are house proud – but not too proud to ask someone to help around the home.”
