The re-opening of Joe’s Bar in partnership with Wetherspoons will create new job opportunities, and given its location will be an ideal role for University of Birmingham students. However, existing staff at Joe’s Bar will remain employed.

John Hutson, Wetherspoons’ chief executive told The Sun: “We are delighted to have entered into the partnership with the Guild of Students and look forward to working with it to make Joe’s Bar a great success”.

The announcement of the new pub in Birmingham marks the eighth new location from Wetherspoons, all of which will be opening in 2026.

Wetherspoons recently announced plans to open more pubs across Britain in the likes of Bristol, Croydon, Stockton-on-Tees, Beaconsfield and Wetherby.

A spokesperson for Wetherspoons told The Sun: “Wetherspoon is opening new pubs across the UK and continues to seek further sites. Inspired by local history, each pub has its own design, character and personality.”
