Diners at a Northamptonshire stately home will enjoy a sumptuous four course dinner with a difference next month, with the food served up in an ‘igloo’.

Danny Tompkins, a former winner of the coveted ‘Chef of the Year’ category at the Northamptonshire Food & Drink Awards, has created a bespoke menu for Lamport Hall’s Walled Garden Feast, being held between May 17 and 31.

The event will see guests able to hire their very own private igloo or bell tent and soak up the atmosphere of the gardens in groups of six – in line with current COVID-19 guidelines.

Danny, a former personal chef to Earl Spencer who has cooked for celebrities including Jay Z, said: “After a challenging 12 months it feels great to be able to cook for people again and see them enjoying the food. The takeaways and cook-at-home menus have kept us going but there’s nothing quite like seeing people sitting down and tucking into the meal you have prepared for them.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing people having a great time with their family and friends. It’s about time we all had some smiles on our faces.

“It promises to be a superb event and the team at Lamport Hall have pulled out all the stops to ensure it’s a safe and secure event, abiding by all the regulations. The igloos and tents look phenomenal and it’s certainly a first for me.”

Guests choosing the £65 four course menu will enjoy gin-infused chicken liver parfait, torched mackerel with salt baked beetroot carpaccio, soy-glazed flat iron steak with pickled shimeji mushrooms, crispy shallots, charred tender stem broccoli and black garlic and lemon cheesecake mousse, with chocolate soil and a honeycomb and yogurt sorbet.

A series of meat, vegetarian, cheese and sweet picnic boxes will also be available, priced between £7.50 and £16.
