"If we break £10,000 we can do so much good in Northamptonshire this Christmas - so let's give it one last big push."

This is the challenge set by Northamptonshire's 'Mother Christmas' Jeanette Walsh, who wants to make sure thousands of disadvantaged families, children and young people have something to open this December.

Earlier this month, the Chronicle & Echo and the Northamptonshire Telegraph launched their annual Christmas Toy Appeal - and already the county's readers have done so much.

Altogether, over £5,000 has been raised so far for so disadvantaged families and children can still have a special Christmas after such an unprecedented year.

Now, with just two weeks to go, we're asking our readers to give the appeal one last push and raise that total up to £10,000 by December 10.

"It's been such a tremendously hard year for so many people, but it's going to be even more difficult for Northamptonshire's most hard-up families.

"Already we've raised over £5,000 in just a few weeks. But I know Northamptonshire can hit £10,000 and make a real difference this year.

"Let's give it one last big push for these last two weeks and make December 25 that much more special for the people who need it the most."

So far, the appeal's JustGiving page has raised more than £4,500, and on top of that is a fantastic £1,000 raised by the West Haddon Endowed Primary School's 'Expedition to Lapland' fundraiser.

The money will be used to buy gifts and presents that will be shared out to disadvantaged families through the county council's network of social workers.

The JustGiving page has been set up by the Faraway Children's Charity working together with the Chronicle & Echo and the Northamptonshire Telegraph.
