A Christmas wreath made on a Northamptonshire farm will don the front door of 10 Downing Street this year.

Ella Miles, who runs Welford Christmas Tree Farm in Northampton Road, with her family, has won the 2020 festive wreath making competition, held by the British Christmas Tree Growers Association.

She made an autumnal wreath centred around the colours of pink and red, which was sent to be judged and led to her being crowned the winner.

The family enters the wreath competition most years, as well as the best Christmas tree category and this is the fourth time Ella has been victorious with her wreaths.

Ella said: “This year we started growing pumpkins at the farm and have done Halloween events as an add on, which is where my inspiration for the wreath came from.

“I went for an autumnal feel as I liked the colours of it.

“It wasn’t the most Christmassy, but I thought the pinks and reds looked good.

“The firs were all cut from the farm too.”

Now that Ella has won the competition, she will be asked to make two more wreaths for the occupants of the parliamentary house to choose between.

Whichever wreath is chosen will hang on the infamous front door for the Christmas season.

Ella added: “It’s a real honour and we’re really proud.

“We have won it three times before, but it’s been a few years since we won as the last time was in 2017.

“It’s a real accolade and it’s great for the business to have a claim like this.

“I think the wreaths I make for Downing Street will be more Christmassy, but it’s amazing that one of ours will be used.

“We are just a family run, local business that has got bigger and bigger.”

The farm will be open for festivities and Christmas tree shopping from the middle of November to Christmas Eve.
