Kettering church clock and bells get £26,000 restoration

St Peter and St Paul's Church in Kettering town centre has had its clock face re-gilded

The clock and bells at Kettering's St Peter and St Paul Church are being lovingly restored thanks to £26,000 raised by bellringers.

Yesterday (Monday), workmen could be seen abseiling down the town centre church as they re-gilded the gold numerals on the clock face.

The work required a nerve for heights, as the church's tower and spire is 180ft tall.

Over the last few months, the church's bells have fallen silent as part of the £26,000 works.

The huge sum of money was raised by the church's dedicated bellringers, who usually chime the bells throughout the day and practice peal rining on Thursday evenings.

The church's vicar, Reverend David Walsh, said: "We hope to begin Sunday worship in our building again in early September and it would be great to celebrate this and the re-gilding of our clocks with the first chiming of the clock bells for many months."
