A statement from Nene Valley Scouts Firework Committee said: "The organisers of the firework display in Rushden have been discussing the impact Covid-19 will have on our annual event.

"Sadly we have decided that under the current situation the best action we can take is to cancel the display for this year.

"The money that we raise goes to support the fantastic work that our team of volunteer leaders and supporters do for young people across East Northants and its loss will have a significant impact.

"We appreciate all of the support that we have received over the past 50 years.

"We will be back in 2021."

The annual attraction was also cancelled two years ago in 2018 due to high winds.

It was the first time in the event's 50-year history that it had been cancelled.
