Anyone who knows a nurse or midwife at KGH who has provided extraordinary and compassionate care can now nominate them for a top award.

The Rothwell Road hospital is one of almost 4,000 healthcare organisations across the world to take part in the Daisy Award - an international recognition programme that honours and celebrates the skilful care that many nurses and midwives provide every day.

The Daisy (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award was first established in the USA in 1999 by the family of J Patrick Barnes, after his death from complications of the auto-immune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP) at the age of 33.

This led to the Daisy Foundation being founded by his family because they felt compelled to say ‘thank you’ to those who cared for him in a very public way.

Kettering General Hospital’s deputy director of nursing and quality Diane Postle, who is supporting the new initiative, said: “We are excited to announce that KGH is introducing the Daisy Award to allow patients, family and carers the opportunity to recognise our extraordinary nurses and midwives.

“Every year we receive many private thank you messages from patients and their families and this is very much appreciated.

“But by taking part in the Daisy Awards we are also enabling local people to take that extra step and say thank you in an internationally recognised way.”

Anyone who wants to nominate a nurse or midwife can do it by:

- visiting the feedback page on the Kettering General Hospital website and completing a nomination form at https://feedback.kgh.nhs.uk/view-surveys- emailing a nomination to: [email protected]

- taking a leaflet from a designated box in the hospital, ensuring it is in an envelope and posting it back to the hospital using the address provided
