KGH Radio will be heard by more patients thanks to a generous donation by Mulberry Homes.

The station broadcasts 24/7 and is run by a team of volunteers. KGH Radio had been on the air for 50 years when it closed in 2018, but it came back in December after the hospital donated space for a brand new studio.

Mulberry Homes, a housebuilder that specialises in smaller or medium sized developments across the Midlands, has now donated eight Bluetooth speakers to KGH Radio to allow patients in wards to listen.

Steve Bellamy, trustee of KGH Radio, said: "We're so grateful for Mulberry Homes' generous donation.

"Our radio station helps patients feel more at home in their surroundings and hospital staff stay connected to each other, and these speakers will help enormously.

"KGH Radio has been in existence for a very short time, hampered as we have all been by the strange circumstances we find ourselves in.

"However, we now have a number of new volunteers and are gradually increasing our ‘live’ output, and are working hard to provide the best possible service."

The donation is part of Mulberry Homes' Distinctly Local Campaign which supports two local charities or organisations each month.

During the coronavirus pandemic, Mulberry Homes has focused on supporting causes that can make a difference to communities adapting to the 'new normal'.

Kerry Jones, sales director for Mulberry Homes, said: "It's been a pleasure to be able to make this donation to KGH Radio and those who benefit from its services.

"The pandemic has been especially tough for hospital staff and patients, and we hope hearing the radio broadcasts through these speakers will offer a sense of comfort during this time.

"A key element of our Distinctly Local campaign is the commitment to strengthening, and forging lasting partnerships with, the communities local to our developments.

"We’ve been incredibly proud to be able to continue with our Distinctly Local donations during the pandemic."
